Two plans that were benchmark in 2020 are closing in 2021. This fact sheet explains how members of those plans can ensure full access to covered prescriptions in 2021.

The 2020 Benchmark Premium $36.55, BENCHMARK plans are “basic” plans with premiums below this “benchmark” set each year by CMS. All benchmark plans are free for people with Extra Help – including those with Medicaid or Medicare Savings Program. Anyone with Extra Help is randomly assigned to benchmark plans if they don’t select any plan.

Shows which plans are free for people with Extra Help (Medicaid, Medicare Savings Program, or other Extra Help)

Medicare Part D prescription drug plans which are free for all those with Extra Help. These are the plans to which dual eligibles or Medicare beneficiaries who have Extra Help will be automatically assigned by CMS if they are not already in a plan. There are no changes from the list of benchmark plans from 2018.
