As of April 1, 2010, applicants for Medicaid and Family Health Plus (FHP) are no longer required to have a face to face interview as part of the application process. Applications can now be mailed or dropped off at local Medicaid offices.
Unfortunately, the federal government continues to require that citizens applying for the first time present original documentation of their citizenship and identity when they submit applications for Medicaid or FHP. To avoid loss of original documentation, individuals who must present their originals should go in person to a facilitated enroller, other authorized entity or local Medicaid office to present these documents. For information on the elimination of this application requirement, see 10 OHIP/ADM-4 found on the State Department of Health's(SDOH) website at http://www.nyhealth.gov/health_care/medicaid/publications/pub2010adm.htm and the NYC Human Resources Administration's April 26, 2010 Medicaid Alert.
